About Odoo
What is Odoo?
Odoo is business software made of apps: accounting, sales, inventory, purchase, manufacturing, HR and more. Every app writes to the same database, so a sale, the stock it moves and the invoice it raises are one record, not three files kept in step by hand.
-
01
Open source at its core
Odoo is developed by Odoo S.A. in Belgium. Its core is open source, which is why thousands of community apps exist alongside the official ones.
-
02
Start small, grow into it
Switch on the apps you need now and add more later, without moving your data to a new system.
-
03
Set up around how you work
Each app is configured for your business: your approvals, your price lists, your print formats and reports.
-
04
In the browser, on any device
Odoo runs in a web browser, so your team can use it from the office, the warehouse floor or a phone on the road.
One database
How the apps connect.
Because every app shares one database, one action moves the whole business forward. Nothing to export, sync or type in twice.
-
01
A sale reserves the stock
Confirm a quotation and the items are reserved in the warehouse, ready to pick.
-
02
The delivery updates inventory
Stock levels change the moment goods leave, at every location.
-
03
The invoice reaches the books
Invoicing the order posts it to accounts with GST applied, and the customer payment reconciles against it.
-
04
People feed payroll
Attendance, leave and expense claims sit on one employee record and flow into the payroll run.
Where to start
Which apps to start with.
Most growing businesses go live on a core set first and phase in the rest once it is running, so nobody pays for apps the team has not adopted yet.
Usually phased in next: Manufacturing E-commerce & POS HR & Payroll
Editions
Community or Enterprise?
Odoo comes in two editions. Which one you need follows from the apps you pick.
-

-
Enterprise
Licensed by Odoo S.A.

What your plan includes is on the pricing page.
Questions
Odoo apps questions we get first.
What is Odoo used for?
Running the day-to-day of a business in one system: accounting and GST, sales, stock, purchase, manufacturing, HR and payroll, plus a website, online store and point of sale if you need them.
Is Odoo free?
The Community edition is free and open source. The Enterprise edition, which adds full accounting and apps such as Helpdesk and Quality, is licensed by Odoo S.A. A Shellkube plan is one yearly price per company, set by how many people use Odoo daily; every price is on the pricing page.
Can we start with a few apps and add more later?
Yes. You pay for the apps your business uses and can add more at any time, billed pro rata. Everything stays in the same database, so nothing has to be moved.
Does Odoo handle GST?
Yes. Tax rates, HSN codes and place-of-supply rules are set up in Accounting, and e-invoicing and e-way bills are configured where your turnover requires them.
What if an app we need is not on this page?
Odoo’s community offers more than 50,000 further apps, and anything specific to your business can be built as a custom module, at a fixed price agreed before work starts.
